Turkish President Abdullah Gul would make opening of the session on October 7.
26th session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will be held at the Istanbul Congress Center in Istanbul on October 5-8, 2010.
A statement by State Planning Organization said on Monday that Turkish President Abdullah Gul would make opening of the session on October 7.
The meeting will focus on agricultural and rural development.
Commissions headed by ministers of the economy from 62 member and observer states of the OIC have been invited to the meeting. Along with the OIC Secretariat General, representatives of affiliated organizations and international organizations are also expected to participate.
COMCEC is one of the three Standing Committees established during the Third Islamic Summit Conference held in Mecca and Taif, in 1981.
Pakistan Prime Minister was nominated for the presidency of the Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), and Senegal Prime Minister was nominated for the presidency of Standing Committee for Information and Cultural Affairs (COMIAC), which were established in the third summit.
However, COMCEC did not perform till 1984 since no president was chosen. After the nomination of Turkish President as the COMCEC president at the Fourth Islamic Summit Conference in Casablanca at the beginning of 1984, COMCEC started to function with the First Meeting held in Istanbul in November at the very same year.
