According to the MasterCard survey, covering December 2010, 62 percent of Turks own a credit card. Turks own 1.6 credit cards on average, somewhat more than the average number of debit cards, currently at 1.4 per person. The report also suggests that income levels within the population have no effect on the number of credit cards they own. People in the 30-34 age range were shown to have the most credit cards, or 2.8 per person on average. Those in the 25-29 age group have the highest number of debit cards, at 2.5 per person on average. A breakdown of purchasing behavior shows clothing expenses account for 59 percent of purchases made by credit cards, followed by furniture, white goods and electronics, which come in at 55 percent. Fifty-three percent of purchases made by credit cards were made at a supermarket. Furthermore, 43 percent of Turkish credit card holders pay their bill in full at the end of the month.
