ALIFARABIA.COM - I was at two recent conferences, OIC Member States’ Stock Exchange Forum 5th Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, and SWIFT’s SIBOS massive event in Toronto, and, folks, we have a lot of work ahead of us in Islamic finance/Muslim countries on build out of the capital markets, linkages, etc.  (source)

As the global Islamic Finance industry continues to grow, new markets and new opportunities are starting to emerge. Turkey's 2011 Finance Bill included tax neutrality measures for sukuk leading to high expectations of a wave of Turkish corporate sukuk. Gulf Islamic banks have been investing in setting up Islamic financial institutions in the CIS countries and African nations are increasingly exploring sukuk as a means of financing essential infrastructure development.

March 24 and 25, 2012

The Tenth Harvard University Forum on Islamic Finance is scheduled to be held at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts on March 24 and 25, 2012. The theme of the conference will be “Islamic Finance and Development.”

The Harvard University Forum on Islamic Finance was conceived in 1997 to engage scholars, practitioners and regulators in productive dialogue about the then- nascent field. Recent forums have focused on questions of innovation and authenticity, the global recession and connections with other ethical finance initiatives. The Tenth Forum sets the evolution of the Islamic financial industry within the context of the economic and political development of Muslim majority markets.
