BANKING - Plan To Issue Mega Islamic Bank Licences Still In Progress

KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) plan to issue up to two mega Islamic bank licences is still on progress, says its deputy governor, Datuk Mohd Razif Abdul Kadir.

"The plan is still in progress. We need to find the right investors," he said, when asked on progress of the plan to issue mega Islamic bank licences. (source)

BANKING - ABG- Biggest Islamic bank to be launched soon


JEDDAH: Sheikh Saleh Kamel, chairman of Al Baraka Banking Group, is set to launch the world’s biggest Islamic bank before the end of the year, with an initial public offering of $3 billion, a top official has said.

Adnan Yousuf, CEO of Al Baraka Banking Group, who is also the chairman of the Union of Arab Banks, said: “We have already completed the necessary research for launching the Islamic bank and there are currently discussions between Sheikh Saleh Kamel and investors to prepare for the public offering.”

KUALA LUMPUR: Dallah Albaraka Group chairman and founder Shaikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel has been awarded the 2010 Royal Award for Islamic Finance.
